Mr. MacLeod was born and raised in Glendale, California. While growing up, he experienced his 15 minutes of fame early by singing as part of a choir on a million selling Neil Diamond album. He graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale, and then attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he received a bachelor of arts degree with majors in politics and economics. After working for a year, he began attending the University of California - Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. By graduating, he became the third member of his family to obtain a Juris Doctor degree from Hastings.
Looking for a Northern California version of his hometown, Mr. MacLeod started his legal career in San Jose , and joined the San Jose office of the firm of Gassett, Perry & Frank. During his career with Gassett, Perry & Frank, he was involved in the defense of construction defect, contractors license bond, public entity and personal injury cases. He then began working for Farmers Insurance, and defended both large and small claims, including claims alleging traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and other major medical claims. During his tenure with Farmers, he was chosen to attend the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and was twice named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the company's San Jose legal office.
Mr. MacLeod began working for Willoughby, Stuart & Bening in 2002. His work covers a broad variety of matters including general business litigation, defense of professional malpractice claims, insurance coverage matters and construction related claims.
Mr. MacLeod has tried more than 20 jury and court trials; participated in numerous arbitrations (both binding and non-binding) and mediation; and attended approximately 1000 depositions.
Mr. MacLeod is married with two children. His wife is a native of San Jose, and an attorney in San Jose handling many of the same types of cases as Mr. MacLeod. While they disagree over their favorite baseball teams, the entire family are avid San Jose Sharks supporters.
